Top 5 Tour - World Port, 2 x World Heritage & Postmodernism

The first part of our Top 5 City Tour includes three unique attractions:

  • the UNESCO World  Heritage Site "Kontorhaus District" with the "Chilehaus", the icon of German Brick Expressionism
  • the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Speicherstadt", Hamburg's most important monumental landscape and
  • the neighborhood quarters of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall in HafenCity, Hamburg's youngest district and currently the largest inner-city construction area in Europe.

During the second part, in the Elbe Philharmonic Hall, we will discover together Hamburg's new landmark:

  • the architecture, building history and financing
  • the structure of parking garage, hotel and apartments
  • the engineering solutions for tube (curved escalator), glass facade and pedestal
  • the security concept
  • the concept of orientation and lighting design, lights and lamps
  • the secrets of the concert halls, their acoustics and the current program.
  • Note: Due to concert rehearsals, our tour does not lead to the concert halls.

During the third part, you will explore the most important German port and take a  harbor cruise on a rented barge. Depending on the tide and daily news, you will experience not only the dense atmosphere of sea, wanderlust, shipping, local color and the world of work from a harbor barge, but also:

  • the historic warehouse district with its streets
  • Europe's largest inner-city construction project, HafenCity
  • the floodgates of the harbor basin
  • the ultra-modern container terminals
  • the large shipbuilding and repair docks from Blohm & Voss
  • the Köhlbrand Bridge and much more.

The skipper will provide you with knowledgeable and entertaining explanations, including on the incoming and outgoing seagoing ships.

Elbe Philharmonic Hall, incl. Harbor edge

The guided tour to the Elbe Philharmonic Hall starts with a walk of about 500 meters along the harbor edge. We dive into the atmosphere of the harbor and roam the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Speicherstadt", the largest warehouse complex of the world.

At the Elbe Philharmonic Hall, we'll introduce you to everything you need to know about Hamburg's new landmark:

  • the architecture, building history and financing
  • the structure of parking garage, hotel and apartments
  • the engineering solutions for the "Tube" (curved escalator), glass facade and pedestal
  • the security concept
  • the concept of orientation and lighting design, lights and lamps
  • the secrets of the concert halls, their acoustics and the current program.

Finally, we enjoy the panoramic view from the outdoor plaza. We show and explain the city and its "gateway to the world", the harbor, from above.
